Assalamu'alaikum. I just realised something a few days ago. I'm going to live forever. Every human being is going to live forever. This world is just like a short stop-over. You know, like when I went to Germany, we took a plane from Singapore to Finland, spent a few hours at the Finland airport and from there we took another plane to Berlin? This Dunya is just like that few hours I spent at the Finland airport. Instead of Berlin, My final destination would be the Afterlife.
Allah created souls that do not die. Souls that live inside bodies that are like tanks. These tanks will die, decompose, or whatever but the soul lives forever. I am a believer of freedom. I believe that we should be able to do whatever we want, whenever we want. However, I realised that this world is not the place for freedom. Freedom does not exist here. It only exists in the Afterlife or more so in Heaven. How do we get there? We just have to pass this test.
This life is a difficult test. What is Allah testing us on, you might ask? Well... I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to Islam but I think Allah is testing us on obedience. The Quran was brought down for us to obey what is written in it. I guess, to reach obedience, you need several things. You need patience, discipline, self-control, will-power and the ability to make sacrifices. You also need fear and hope. You need love and guidance. You need to listen more than you speak. You need to open your eyes and look around you. Most importantly, you need faith in Allah.
Of course, I'm not saying that we should all be cooped up at home and doing ibaadah all day. This world was made for us. Go out. Appreciate the beauty that Allah has provided us with. Spend time with your family and friends. Enjoy yourself but know your limits. Basically, if you want to live happily ever after, obey Allah.
"That is the True Day. So whoever wills, let him seek a place with his Lord (by obeying Him in this worldly life)!"
Surah An-Naba' (78), verse 39.
PS: I just wrote this post as a reminder to myself of the reason why I'm here. I hope when I read this a few years later, it will still make sense because like I said before, I was not educated with the knowledge of Islam. I just know the basics. I hope to learn more, Inshaa Allah.
